Laser projection for composite component manufacturing

Projecting ply outlines onto tooling helps teams lay up reinforcement materials in sequence and check their positions during composite manufacturing.

Guides for sequential ply layup

Manual composite layup requires attention to ply outlines, sequence and orientation. A laser projector displays the selected drawing element on the mould. After placing one ply, the operator advances to the next production step, keeping the digital documentation connected to the physical tool.

Laser drawing projection displays the next composite ply boundary on the tool. Laser layout supports the layup sequence and comparison of reinforcement placement with the prepared mould geometry.

What projected guidance can do

  • Projected ply boundaries and orientation guides.
  • Sequential guidance for layup stages and reinforcement placement.
  • Material position comparison on the mould before later operations.

What to consider when choosing a system

Curved tooling requires geometry data and suitable projection registration. Check material visibility and areas obscured by workers or tooling in advance. Projection guides placement; it does not itself determine impregnation quality or the finished composite's internal structure.
